Two pizza dough recipes

Here are two pizza dough recipes—one for a classic pizza dough and another for a whole wheat pizza dough. These recipes make enough dough for one large pizza.

Classic Pizza Dough:

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the dry ingredients. Stir to combine until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little more flour if it’s too sticky.
  5. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove excess air and knead it briefly. Your pizza dough is now ready to be rolled out and topped with your favorite ingredients.

Whole Wheat Pizza Dough:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little more flour if it’s too sticky.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove excess air and knead it briefly. Your whole wheat pizza dough is now ready to be rolled out and used for a healthier pizza crust.
